Healing a Child’s Heart (HCH) is a non-profit organization that aims to provide free surgery to indigent children in the Middle East born with a congenital heart disease. We target our efforts on those living in the United Nations and International refugee camps in northern Jordan.
Often victims of devastating wars, these children find themselves living in poverty, away from their families and home country, and in desperate need of heart surgery to which they are not entitled to due to their lack of social security coverage.
Our long-term goal is to develop a program of international cooperation, the “Middle East Children Heart Project”, in conjunction with two other non-profit organizations: New York-based Gift of life Inc. and Amman-based Palestine for Medical Coverage. By doing so, our goal is to launch a program of continuing medical education in the fields of paediatric cardiology, cardiac surgery and related disciplines. This will make our initiative self-sustaining by educating the local medical workforce to provide high-quality heart surgery.
To date, our operations have taken place in Amman (Jordan), specifically at the Jordan University Hospital initially and at Al Khalidi Medical Centre later, where we have healed the hearts of 41 indigent children from Jordan, Syria, Iraq and Palestine.
Our initiative builds upon the 35+ years of surgical experience of Giancarlo Crupi, who received several national and international awards for his achievements in the field of international cooperation for pediatric cardiac surgery. His experience in the Middle East dates back to June 1999, when he conducted his first mission in East Jerusalem, followed by several others at Ramallah and in the Gaza strip. Giancarlo currently heads our recruitment effort of qualified voluntary medical and nursing staff to continue providing high-quality surgery.
These children have extremely limited access to reparative surgery: your support can truly help us in healing their hearts.
